Best Friend's Veterinary Center Staff

The Best Friend's Veterinary Center is invests in BOTH people and instruments. It is our people providing quality, caring, professional service that has made us successful.

Dr AndersonDr. Eric Anderson loves working with pets and their owners.  He grew up loving and hugging a large variety of pets.  From the time he was a small boy, he always wanted to be a veterinarian.  What is not to like.  Now, he is the Director and Chief of Staff of the Best Friend’s Veterinary Center.

Dr. Anderson has been voted the “Best Veterinarian on Whidbey” by The Whidbey News Times readership poll again and again.  He prides himself in his advanced, post-doctoral education.  He has an especially strong background in orthopedic surgery and ultrasonography.  He has taken the advanced orthopedic course work from Ohio State University. He is also one of only a very small number of veterinarians in Washington who are certified to perform the Tibia Plateau Leveling Operation (TPLO) for cruciate ligament knee repair.

Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine has appointed him as an adjunct professor.  Best Friend’s has had the honor of teaching over 30 such veterinary student externs who have gone on to become doctors.  They have come to us from Cornell, Minnesota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, Washington, Iowa, Ross University, and even as far away as Japan. They really keep us on our toes!

Dr Anderson has trained in the latest ultrasound imagining techniques, completing advanced course work offered by the ultrasound specialists at Sound Technologies in California. The clinic’s GE Logiq Ultrasound system is the latest in color flow Doppler, offering non-invasive imaging that often spares pets the pain of surgery.

Frustrated by an absence of critical care options for pets in the area, in 2005 Dr. Anderson led local colleagues to form the Pet Emergency Center, which now serves the emergency needs of critical care patients throughout Island and Skagit Counties. There, emergency-room doctors are available to care for pets all night—a sharp contrast to what had been available locally.

In 2007, after years of planning, training, and implementation, Drs. Anderson and Williams started the Thyroid Treatment Center in Mount Vernon.  The Thyroid Treatment Center treats cats that otherwise would die from hyperthyroidism.  The TTC is only one of three privately operated veterinary thyroid treatment centers in the entire state.

Dr. Anderson is blissfully married to Mary Anderson.  Mary is a Respiratory Therapist by training, but she also designs custom invitations for her business Font & Flourish.

The Anderson family first moved to Whidbey Island in 1912.  Dr. Anderson attended Coupeville High School and is an alumnus of Washington State University.  Eric and Mary live in Oak Harbor.  Dr. Anderson’s daughter Erica Syring, D.V.M. is a tremendously caring and talented veterinarian and associate at Best Friend’s Veterinary Center.  His son, Chris Anderson and wife Lisa, own Trophy Century 21 Real Estate.  Mary's daughter Jessica Eickhoff is a Speech Pathologist working for the Children’s Therapy Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.  Mary’s son Michael graduated from Whatcom Community College with an AA degree as a teacher’s aide.
